Montagu is a sleepy village in the heart of the Western Cape. Its claim to fame is the natural thermal spa and its convenient location near the sights of the Langeberg Valley.

We drove via Darling, West Coast National Park, Langebaan. On our way back, we passed Citrusdal, an oasis surrounded by arid Karoo landscape.

Hermanus, about a 1 1/2-hour drive from Cape Town, is one of these places I keep coming to. Whether it's for the whales, wine estates, or the region's natural beauty, a visit to The Kelder, half an hour outside Hermanus, is a must because of its splendid setting.
