Staying with friends for several weeks in their beautiful home close to the Plage de la Madrague in Biarritz (well, technically Anglet) I was able to experience the chic side of this somewhat touristy (at least in the summer months) resort town.

Biarritz is a sleepy French surf town that is featured in the Endless Summer. My surferboy, Ben, made that a must-see on our trek through Europe. I am glad he did, because the beaches, the people and the ambiance made it well worth the trip.

This town of approximately 30,000 can swell to 125,000 during summer and was the first leg of our two-part journey through France. It was not just the realization of schoolbook text, but an awakening into an established culture that so welcomed us!
