- Our reservations are for Oct. 11 in Lenoir, NC, at Green Mountain Park Resort, then October 12 and 13 at Stoney Creek Resort in Greenville, VA. My cousin, Katie Smith, is due today, September 19, 2005, to have her second child. I will edit this journal when we return home.

- In this journal I wrote about some of the things we did when we visited Roanoke. We stayed in a historical hotel, "Hotel Roanoke," ate at "Nawab" and visited "Mill Mountain Zoo," and "Poplar Forest," which is approximately 45 minutes east of Roanoke.

- Roanoke is known as the "Star City of the South" and as you drive into the city, you are greeted by a large star that sits atop Mill Mountain. It's like a big beacon, inviting you to stop and stay a while.
Roanoke is located along I-81 as you travel south through the state of Virginia, and only a few miles away lies the home of my college rival, Virginia Tech.
It's a fairly small community, compared with the big cities, yet offers enough to keep you busy - even a AAA hockey team.
