- Martha's Vineyard - more commonly called simply "The Vineyard" by those who live in the northeast - has always been a picture of quaint, nautical New England-ness. Today, the island proudly remains franchise-free and fiercely protects its lifestyle.

- This was our first trip to Martha's Vineyard. The moment we stepped off the ferry we were hooked. This is summer at its very finest. It wasn't hard, but we had fallen in love with Martha's VIneyard.

- Four days biking, walking, and driving around the island, what my partner calls a "reconnaissance expedition"--we would return. We biked around Oak Bluffs and the State Park, walked around Edgartown, and drove to Gay Head Cliffs.

- Three days at Captain Dexter's House of Vineyard Haven, riding bikes to Oak Bluff and Edgartown, old whaling captains' houses and roses--lots of roses--plus, whale-watching, walking, good eating, and beautiful surroundings.

- Signs of summer on this island are smelling the salty ocean, seeing flowers and trees in bloom, and hearing nothing but silence on a starry night.

- Who ever though a small "rock" 26 miles wide could bring such popularity to the little state of Massachusetts? You can find your "average Joe" to former President Bill Clinton vacationing here.
