- You won't find someone sightseeing in a motorized vehicle on these carriage roads. You'll find hikers, joggers, cyclists, cross-country skiers, carriage riders and horseback riders on these roads of pristine forest.

- The scenic beauty of Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island in Maine provides opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, biking, kayaking, and just enjoying nature. Granite-domed mountains combined with glacier-carved valleys and inlets make an interesting landscape. Small towns on the island provide restaurants and shopping.

- For our honeymoon, we were looking for something with a nice mix of outdoors activity, great cuisine, a splash of luxury (it WAS our honeymoon, after all), and a bit closer than Hawaii. Acadia and Bar Harbor (located on Mt. Desert Island) turned out to be the perfect choice.
