- Apfelstrudel, topfenstrudel, sachertorte, and guglhupf: Vienna’s heaven for anyone with a sweet tooth. Add to that two of Europe’s most historic palaces, some interesting museums, and an imposing cathedral, and you have the perfect destination.

- Vienna’s old town is full of reminders of the often glorious rule of the Habsburgs. The Hofburg was the imperial residence, the Picture Gallery displays their taste in art, and the Karlskirche bears testimony to the importance these staunchly Roman Catholic rulers attached to religion.

- The treasury in Vienna houses the regalia and insignia of the Holy Roman Empire as well as the Austrian Empire. Top billing goes to the thousand-year-old imperial crown, the even older holy lance, and the artistically unsurpassed personal crown of Rudolf II.

- Vienna is a dream city for anyone with a romantic streak or interest in history. It's a city of culture, history, music, and art. Wander along narrow medieval alleyways or across imperial squares, view Schönbrunn Palace or the Imperial Palace (Hofburg), and marvel at the impressive architecture along the Ring.

- Schloss Schönbrunn is a huge baroque palace in the outskirts of Vienna that served as summer residence to the Habsburg royal family. The marvelous palace and enormous gardens were intended to rival Versailles. In addition to the hour in the palace, it is possible to spend days exploring the park.
