Tokyo is sprawling, dense, and mostly built out of ugly concrete and neon signs. It can be intense and overwhelming, especially for a foreigner. And yet, it's one of the world's most fascinating destinations, worthy of its image and reputation.

One could spend a lifetime getting to know Tokyo. I had a few days, entirely too brief but absolutely enjoyable. I cried as I departed this fine city. My time there was just too short.

However, there are many relatively quiet and serene areas to find peace and tranquility. Gardens, temples and museums offer the best opportunities to get away from the crowds.
