- My dream of visiting Greenland became reality when our plane touched down in Nuuk. We spent a day in this capital city before flying north to Ilulissat and Kangerlussuaq.

- Kangerlussuaq is not like other Greenlandic towns in that it exists to support its relatively large airport. However, just outside Kangerlussuaq are grand tundra and the world’s largest ice cap outside of Antarctica.

- Icebergs, sled dogs, glaciers, Inuit culture - even in summer Ilulissat screams arctic. It was a joy to experience life at the top of the world.

- Sailing away from Iceland (so green) and approaching Greenland, we are struck by the difference. Greenland is not very green. At first glimpse through the morning mist, it loomed large and somwehat forbidding. There are only 55,000 hardy inhabitants living on this largest island in the world.

- Despite my misgivings about the cold, I went to Greenland in the early spring when sunlight returns and the ice-covered ecosystem awakens from a long, dark winter. Greenland is a stunning, undiscovered country.
