Paul Newman’s room at the Grand Hotel is where he kisses Elke Sommer in “The Prize.” He wonders if the king can see them from the Royal Palace across the water. We had a similar (but different) experience during a memorable stay at the Grand Hotel.

No words can do justice to the wonder, amazement, and sense of belonging we experienced when spending four beautiful summer days in Stockholm. The warmth of her people, the beauty of her landscapes and architecture - all of this awaited and unfolded to us. I know we will visit again.

Stockholm is a beautiful city built on 14 islands with bridges, towers, and cobblestone squares. The day we arrived the temperature was in the 90s and very humid. This lasted for two weeks.

Stockholm is 14 islands strung about like polk-a-dots and connected by bridges. Black rocks cascade to still reflections in calm waters in this land of brightly colored boats. Travel from medieval splendor to remote countryside in moments or head to the archipelago with 24,000 more islands to explore!

Stockholm is the beautiful, safe, and clean capital of Sweden. Stockholm is built on 14 islands between Lake Malaren and the Baltic Sea. The 14 islands of Stockholm are connected by almost 60 bridges, so it is easy to get around on land and water. All the waterways, inlets, and locks cause many to refer to Stockholm as the Venice of the North. Population is over 1 million, and a large proportion of Sweden's population of 9 million. Sweden is very environmentally conscious, and this is ingrained in their daily lives. Many people smoke cigarettes. As with many countries, Sweden does not have many non-smoking ordinances or non-smoking areas in restaurants. Adamant non-smokers need to be ready to deal with this. I have visited Stockholm during all times of the year, and summer is my favorite time to go. Sweden's northern latitude means that it never gets really dark from mid-May to late July (up to 18 hours of daylight), but the drawback is a dark and cold winter.

Stockholm Cafes Highly wired Sweden boasts a high per capita consumption of coffee. Only the Finns out-caffeine the Swedes. Therefore I was not surprised to find a variety of cafes in Stockholm. Look for atmosphere, good pastries, but no decaf. Here are a few cafes my Swedish friend and I visited.
