- I adore Japan and respect the customs and culture, but after a long, long flight across the Pacific Ocean, I was pleased to check into the Hilton Osaka and begin my pleasures in that fine city.

- Osaka, Japan's second largest city, has long been the culinary and cultural rival of much larger Tokyo. While it isn't quite as vast a spectacle as Tokyo, it is certainly less cosmopolitan, in some ways it is more rooted in its culture of business, food, and Kansai dialect/humor.

- Osaka is a cosmopolitan city with its own identity and culture. This is the city of the working class, down-to-earth, but nevertheless, colorful. The city really comes alive at night.
Osaka was our gateway to Honshu, Japan. We arrived at Kansai International airport on an overnight flight and was immediately struck by the similiarities between Kansai and Hong Kong's airport. We followed the signs and was soon on our way to the city center of Namba via the subway. It took about 50 minutes and costs 890 yen or US$7.50.

- Hmm, I didn't manage to visit Osaka Castle, arguably Japan's premier tourist attraction. So, how did I spend my time in Osaka? I hope these entries give you an inkling of how there are other interesting things to do in Osaka.
