New Bern is an historic town at the mouth of the Neuse River. Here you can find the Governor's mansion and yet another place where George Washington slept (he did get around!).

Mother's Day is a wonderful day. It is a day to celebrate every mother that raise, care, and most important, love their children. I took my wife (mother of two beautiful daughters) and family to New Bern, NC

The gorgeous weather, highs around 80ºF with no humidity, was perfect to enjoy the many attractions of the area; from fishing and sailing on the Neuse River, to swimming at nearby beaches, to visiting historical sites. A new visitor/convention center on the river has information on New Bern and the surrounding areas.

This journal covers a week spent in North Carolina by a family on holiday from Scotland (mother, father, and boys ages 15 and 16). We were based at Fairfield Harbour, close to New Bern, and spent time locally and out on the coast, which was only 40 minutes away.

Fairfield Harbour is situated among the tall pines along the banks of the Neuse River that leads to the Intercoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. It's great for golfing, boating, swimming, fishing, and sightseeing. Nearby is the historic city of New Bern, North Carolina's first capital.

So much privacy! Such a beautiful location! Well-equipped units made it easy to prepare a complete Thanksgiving dinner. The well laid-out units made this family reunion vacation a memorable experience. This resort is on a creek that feeds the Neuse River, making access to the river for boating very easy.

We enjoyed our stay at Fairfield Harbour. It was a very nice resort, and the people there were very helpful. We visited historical homes in New Bern. On the Outer Banks we visited several lighthouses and a fort; it was very educational. We rode ferry boats from island to island.
