Think "Joburg" and what comes to mind? Danger and violence, Soweto and the history of apartheid, wealth and poverty living side by side...all this is true, but there’s much more, so much potential and unexpected beauty that you must visit to appreciate and perhaps understand.

After an 11-hour flight from Heathrow it was a relief to finally touch down. My immediate impression of the weather was HEAVEN, 29 deg Celsius and not a drop of rain. Bare in mind it is their winter!

LIfe in South Africa is improving after so many years of hard times. Visitors can now make wonderful visits, but you must use common sense. The culture is more Europeon than I expected, often very sophisticated. The whole country is not a camp in the bush.
