- Perak state with it's laid back capital, Ipoh, is the gateway to the Cameron Highlands, abounds with lakes and caves, has some of the best food in the region (especially in Sitiawan) and has the delightful and uncrowded beach resorts of Lumut and the Pangkor islands.
