- After a few days in the City of Angels we flew down to Krabi. We stayed at Ao Nang beach's Gold Beach Resort. The town seemed to be under construction, so there was not much to do at night - most places closed at 22H30.

- Krabi was a convenient stopping point between island hopping on the Gulf and Andaman Sea. A port town and beach community on the mainland, Krabi is a strange, over-commercialized, tourist town. It’s expensive by Thailand standards and probably better left as a quick stopover rather than a destination in its own right.

- Krabi is a "special" resort town facing the south Andaman Sea on the southwestern Thai coast. I call it special because of that laid-back feeling one gets on the air and the laid-back tourists strolling back and forth.

- I had booked this trip 3 months before the tsunami hit the coastal areas of the Andaman Sea. Without any doubt, I lugged my Jack Wolfskin's backpack and headed to the quaint little paradise anyway. I spent three days and two nights in Krabi, and I wish I had been there longer.

- Krabi is on the west coast of Thailand in an area broken by numerous island & limestone cliffs. This was my third stop continuing north through Thailand.

- Having travelled from Penang in Malaysia and crossed into Thailand, it was a 4 hour journey from Hat Yai to our ultimate destinations of Krabi, the beach resorts and islands around this area.
