Canberra is a purpose built capital. Situated around Lake Burley Griffin it possesses the right degree of dignity considering it contains Australia’s seat of Government, High Court and many of the nation's museums, the Australian Mint and many embassies.

We just stayed overnight on our way from Melbourne to Sydney. It is nice enough for a stopover between the two cities, but the town is quite boring, so I wouldn't linger here too long.

An interesting city for sure, but not really worth more than 2 or 3 days, and do it mid-week - certainly don't waste a weekend here when Sydney beckons.

Chosen as a capital due to a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne, Canberra is still struggling to be respected. Those who live there love their city, though they tend to escape during the weekends to the more cosmopolitan Sydney or Melbourne.
