Ronda itself owes all its reputation to its splendid gorge, which reputedly saved a lot of ammunition in the Civil War as victims could be thrown over! It is too visited from the coast during the day. However it is a perfect centre for some excellent less visited places.

Ronda is a medieval town situated in the mountains about an hour North of Malaga. Worth the detour, this town is small and naturally beautiful, and would be even more pleasant without the tourist traps.

As we drove for over an hour through the mountain range north of Malaga to Ronda, I wondered if Hitchcock had taken his inspiration for "Vertigo" from this endlessly winding and desolate road.
