- Cambridge is undoubtably a college town with powerhouse universities, e.g. Harvard and MIT. With a high student population, prices are often high for food and drink--especially in Harvard Square. You need an insider to direct you to the cheap eats (under $10).

- You may relish a city where getting around doesn't involve a car or the subway. Such a town is Cambridge, MA a town with two traditions, the town and gown. Start in Harvard Square and walk through the Yard to reach the great Fogg and Peabody Museaums as well as the Harvard Film Archive where directors show up for questions and insider info on how the film got made (Recent Examples: Shinoda, the great camera man for Ozu and Bill Murray.....

- While Harvard Square is full of aspiring business people, Central Square is the domain of MIT techies and probably the best place for student cheap eats in Cambridge. Local ordinances have kept fast-food from overrunning independently owned "ethnic" restaurants, making for a great place to eat out.
