- I never tire of taking the train or cruising along the Rhine. With either, you don’t worry about driving and can appreciate the scenic countryside. This year I discovered the quaint town of Oberwesel, where I soaked up real-world Germany—and even attended a Wine Witch Festival with local residents.

- Two warm fall days in the Rhine Valley, sipping wine, enjoying castle ruins, watching the river run by. Across the river, the Lorlei set her lovely snares. What could be more German?

- Ok, so being alone on the Rhine ain't all that romantic, but so what. This was my first trip to Europe and I had a blast seeing castles and quaint little towns along the Rhine Valley.
