Just outside Masvingo, c.300km due south of Harare, lies this 11th century ruined stone city, the largest group of stone buildings in Africa south of Cairo. Home to kings, witches, shamen, and now an UNESCO heritage site, it's not to be missed.

While Victoria Falls, which lies on the boarder of Zambia and Zimbabwe, is not classified as a Natural Wonder of the World (Niagara Falls is the closest natural site with which you could compare this place), it is one of nature’s most magnificent treasures.

The Victoria Falls is well known as Mosi-oa-thunya, the Smoke that thunders. Evidence of this can be seen from an aircraft, but it hardly prepares a visitor for what is in store. A roaring sound can be heard on approaching the Mai falls.
