- We were here in 2005 and have returned to take in more of what Northern Arizona is known for. This journal will focus exclusively on Flagstaff. Look for separate journals on the Grand Canyon and Sedona . . . also part of this weeklong vacation!

- Having recently purchased our timeshare at Fairfield Flagstaff, we were anxiously looking forward to this vacation. While it wasn't quite springtime yet, we really had a wonderful time!

- Flagstaff, at 7000 feet elevation and surrounded by majestic mountain peaks and ponderosa pine forests, is not what people typically think of as “Arizona”. It’s a university town with a unique flavor and most assuredly refreshing when much of the rest of the state is sweltering in summer heat.

- This is the second part of our trip to Flagstaff. There is so much to do in the area. Things like pre-colonial Indian ruins, specialized train rides, natural wonders like the Painted Desert, a volcano, a mining ghost town, Frontier Fort, the Red Rock formations, etc. I'll look at several more sights in this journal.

- Once we did some research on the Flagstaff area, we were astounded at the number of things to do. Ride the rails to the Grand Canyon, visit cliff dwellings, the Meteor Crater, and so much more!

- America's beauty truly took our breath away when we drove this long, leisurely loop through nine states. Cornfields to scrub desert to snow-peaked mountains, the abrupt changes in landscape were like a breath of fresh air every morning on the road.

- For most people, the words "Northern Arizona" scream "Grand Canyon." While the "Big Ditch" is something everyone should see, there are many smaller National Park areas in the northern part of the state that are nearly as fascinating, but lack the crowds.
