- In May 2005, I spent three weeks in beautiful Olympia, the state capital of Washington, for training for a new job. During this time, I got to experience some of the area's scenery, excellent dining, and other attractions.

- This is one of the most astounding national parks in the country. The picturesque scenery is full of breathtaking beaches, moss-laden trees, and magnificent waterfalls. We spent hours hiking, strolling beaches, and soaking up natural hot springs. This is a great romantic getaway or family vacation.

- Allow about two hours drive south of Seattle to reach this capitol in moderately heavy traffic.

- "Olympia Beer. . . it's the water," was the motto that's sticks in your head kind of like a bad 80's song like "I Love a Rainy Night" (wasn't that Kenny Loggins?).
Olympia is much more than a brewery town, this enclave situated two hours north of Portland and an hour South of Seattle is home to an eclectic community where oppposites attract. From the steps of the state capitol to the forested campus of the Evergreen State College, Olympia is a place where all sides of the political spectrum have learned to coexist, mostly.
Make a point to stop off while visiting Washington, or take a day trip from Seattle or Portland. Even better if you can time it to see one of the bi-annual art walks or many festivals.
