- Shopping in Genoa is lots of fun - great food, great style, and great February sale bargains. The city has wonderful old shops and big stores, plenty to keep shoppers happy.

- Genoa has cultural and artistic offerings for every age and pocket. While appreciating the high art, we really enjoyed the popular culture - the Luzatti Museum and the Teatro della Tosse were the highlights.

- We loved Genoa's narrow streets, the working port city, and the interesting quirks and features of its fascinating medieval quarter. Genoa is ignored by too many visitors heading down the coast to Portofino or the Cinque Terre - they are missing out.

- Genoa's proud maritime traditions and recent refurbishment of its vibrant harbourfront contributed to a fascinating visit to an ancient but thriving port city. We loved it.

- We awoke, anticipating the picturesque port of Portofino; instead we found Italy’s largest, busiest harbor, Genova! “Bad water” and weather conditions would not allow our cruise ship to dock in Portofino. So we set out to Genova with folding umbrellas and Guide Book in hand and not a clue!

- Genoa, part of the historic Italian Sea Republic, city of art, culture, and gastronomy, has inspired painters and writers and is an amazing city to discover.

- We spent 2 nights in Genoa (Genova) and attempted to stay in the mountain town of Casella for the second, but we couldn't find a room in either of the town's hotels.
