- Enough history already! Italy may well be the birthplace of the Roman Empire, centre of the Catholic Church, and home of the Renaissance, but there’s a time and a place for just saying ‘no more!’. And that place just might be Sorrento (except that Pompeii is just next door . . . ).

- A short visit to Sorrento is a perfect getaway. It's a wonderful area to make your base while in southern Italy.

- Sorrento has some great street shopping. We didn't see much of the town, but instead used it as a place to stay, from which we visited Capri (beautiful; visit the Grotto Azzura if weather permits), Pompeii, and Positano, famous for pasta con vongole. Yum!

- We spent a week in Sorrento, as we couldn't get the Italian lakes booked. I had been before 8 years ago and loved it. So it was a pretty safe bet that it would be a success.
