- According to the official Geneva Web site, the city’s home to over 200 international organisations. In about five hours, we saw a Russian Church and an English garden; dined at a café where we were served by an Indian, and went past another where Bill Clinton dined. Cosmopolitan? You bet.

- What could have turned out to be a stuffy behind-the-scenes business trip to the U.N. in Geneva turned out to be a great 10-day visit.

- Frequent visits to the Pays de Gex and Geneva bring welcome interludes of big scenery. Long lunches in snow-bound mountain refuges, dizzying views, and a studied examination of the quality of vin chaud fill our days.

- I spent just one afternoon in Geneva, on the way from France to Italy. However, as it is a fairly pedestrian friendly city, you can see much in just one day.

- My husband and I just spent a weekend staying with friends in Geneva, one of Europe's most expensive cities. We have a secret Credit Crunch weapon - my friend Pilar who knows a bargain when she sees one. We spent less than £80 between two of us.
