As a holiday destination, Lake Garda offers sports, relaxation, and exploration. The romantic city of Verona and the surreal city of Venice are within easy traveling distance. The area is rich in ancient heritage, architectural beauty, and it offers the joys of both the lowlands and highlands.

With crystal clear waters surrounded by steep mountains, Lago di Garda would be worth a visit just for the scenery. But now add castles and charming towns and you feel like you stepped into a fairy tale. One of these towns, Malcesine, is called "The Pearl of Garda."

The largest of Italy's lakes, Lake Garda is the most oriented to tourism. The rich soil and mild climate encourage an abundance of wildlife and flora. Cedars, olives, lemon and palm trees flourish and the Gorgeous shoreline offers pristine beaches. Numerous ancient castles dot the hillsides.

Lago di Garda, or Garda Lake, is the largest lake of Italy. Located in the north of the country, it's a popular holiday destination, with the Northern half slightly more crowded than the Southern, that still displays a bit more of typical Italian charm.

My daughter and I visited Lake Garda on our way to the Dolomite Condo we had reserved and again on the way back. It was a lovely stop on the way back to Milano to catch our plane home.
