- The capital of Slovakia is Bratislava, located on the banks of the Danube River. Unlike nearby Vienna or Budapest, Bratislava is still relatively undiscovered by many tourists and provides a relaxing change of pace with friendly people, laidback charm, and an extra bonus of very reasonable prices.

- I spent a total of three months in the Slovak village of Borovce, Slovakia during two separate occasions in 2001 and 2002. Life is quiet and boring, but with a bicycle or two good legs, you can see a lot around and outside of this little village.

- For many centuries, people have taken cures in the waters of Piestany, Slovakia. While Piestany, this small town of 35,000 people, is unknown to most Americans, it has a special place in my heart.

- My Slovak friends, Ivan, Miro, and Evka took me on a night trip to this medieval gem in September 2001. After centuries of war and destruction, Nitra has come through its trials and tribulations virtually unscathed and is worth a day or night trip when you visit Slovakia.
