We drove 1 1/2 hours to Washington and checked into the Ramada Inn to shop for antiques in town and out of town along the old Route 40, The National Road or "National Pike," a historic landmark. It's easy to imagine you're in a horse-drawn carriage along the Pike.

Some really nice attractions and restaurants can be found in your own backyard. My family and I (who are from the Pittsburgh area) proved this by spending two days in Washington, PA recently. The best part was that we didn't have to spend hours in the car!
