We drove 1 1/2 hours to Washington and checked into the Ramada Inn to shop for antiques in town and out of town along the old Route 40, The National Road or "National Pike," a historic landmark. It's easy to imagine you're in a horse-drawn carriage along the Pike.

Some really nice attractions and restaurants can be found in your own backyard. My family and I (who are from the Pittsburgh area) proved this by spending two days in Washington, PA recently. The best part was that we didn't have to spend hours in the car!

Washington is a city of deep roots. There are many parts of history which were formed here. Whether it be a pathway towards slavery freedom or a old fashioned glass factory once in business.
