- I spent a magical day in Avignon walking through the medieval yet modern streets and around the pope's castle, and gazing at the sun from the bridge. Even though it was winter, the South of France was sunny and without clouds in the bluest sky.

- Making Avignon a day trip from Paris may – and I sometimes think does – sound slightly crazy (especially if you have just checked the distance on your map), but it is possible if you have little time to spend in France.
