A few of us took a trip to Mysore as a break from our studies. We had a wonderful time exploring temples, palaces, and, of course, all some new dining establishments.

My first visit was in 1982, and I have been to this place three or four times thereafter. A few things have fascinated me on all the occasions. The first is the clean and nicely built and maintained railway station, the second is lots of statues of the kings on the squares of the main market, and the third is intricately designed, handmade artifacts. The local bus service used to be excellent in 1982 but has deteriorated a lot. The roads and the markets used to have a grand look to them, which also has withered with time. There are a lot of places that still give you the old-world charm.
