Endless beaches, great tidepooling, shelling, and snorkeling abound in this Mexican resort town of Rocky Point. There's even a volcanic biosphere reserve with giant lunar-like craters to explore en route from Tucson or Phoenix. In mid-October, we joined another family and headed south of the border to friendly Mexico.

Only about 200 miles south of Phoenix, Puerto Penasco, or Rocky Point,is a vacation destination for many Arizonans. The beaches are lovely with water temperatures that are warm enough to comfortably swim in 8 months out of the year.

We often go to Rocky Pointe for long weekends. We came across an aquarium that our daughters wanted to see. I didn't believe my eyes.

Puerto Penasco is 75 miles south of the Arizona border. As of now, the best way to travel there is by car. There are many condo and timeshares being built. If you get the chance, this is still a wonderful small town in Mexico with great beaches.
