- I suppose you could call it a prearranged tour, a 1-year prearranged tour. Minus the occasional mortar attack, the city is in pretty good shape for Iraq. Most of the people were friendly and the Palace Complex was amazing.

- In September 2003, another officer and I escorted two European contractor friends of ours from Al Jaber Air Base Kuwait to Balad, Iraq. Our flight was canceled, so we basically hitchhiked, with some interesting stops along the way at Tallil Air Base, An Naseriah, and Baghdad.

- This destination was "the bomb" this time of year! Very shaking experience for our entire group. Citizen hospitality not what I'd hoped for. All in all, a vacation I'll never forget!

- A pleasant city surrounded by incredible historical sites, the city is a few degrees cooler than Baghdad and a lot more pleasant. The center is also in a much better state of preservation.
