- This is a reconstructed version of my 1985 trip to the Loire Valley of France. I enjoyed a day of visiting three chateaux, Chambord, Chenonceau, and Amboise which are full of history and intrigue that had me picqued from the get-go.

- Charles the Fat held a diet in Colmar in 884 AD.That, punny as it is, was reason enough for us to visit! And Colmar, a very convenient day trip from Strasbourg, with its leafy parks, canals, pretty half-timbered houses, old statues and magnificent buildings was worth it.

- "What a pretty garden!" said Louis XIV of Alsace, and if Strasbourg is anything to go by, I’m inclined to agree. Very pretty indeed, with its half-timbered houses, its spectacular cathedral, its quiet canals and its utter charm.

- Strasbourg, home of pâté de foie gras, is great for culinary adventures. Our hotel, unfortunately, wasn’t as fabulous as the restaurants we dined in.
