I visited Dubrovnik as a port of call during my Adriatic Cruise on Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas in October 2011. Dubrovnik was absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait to go back!

Dubrovnik’s old town has a large concentration of museums, monasteries and churches and its famous city walls walk is one that every visitor should take. Beyond the walls, the island of Lokrum, the cable car to Mount Srdj and a first class hotel spa are equally welcome diversions.

There are plenty of places to eat in Dubrovnik’s old town but the two best meals I had were outside of the city walls. For drinks however, the old town is home to one particularly great wine bar and a couple of cosy, old school haunts.

Best known to most non-Croatians for improbably enduring a Serbian siege in 1991-1992, the miraculously preserved Old Town of Dubrovnik is (to my mind) the most beautiful city in Europe. As G.B. Shaw put it:

Dubrovnik is perhaps the crown jewel of Croatian tourism, and deservedly so. The compact walled old city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is blessed with a beautiful location along the Adriatic Sea. Dubrovnik was known as Ragusa until 1918.
