The Lauterbrunnen to Grutchalp funicular, which has served the area for over 100 years, is being replaced by a new cable car. Effective mid-April the funicular will close and the new cable way will open in early December. In the interim travelers to Murren must use the Schilthorn cable way from Stechelberg.

If you are a hiker Lauterbrunnen is without doubt the best place to be in summer. Its central location gives you almost immediate access to the upper mountains on both sides of the valley as well as the southern end of the valley through Stechelberg.
