I live in Philadelphia, and I go to the Jersey shore all the time to see friends and be at the ocean. Here is my journal of Long Branch and the area around it.

Long branch is past prime, yet maintains essence and casual atmosphere of beach towns. Pressidents vacationed here during 19th century. The town was a major resort for the elite. today, it's less attractive but still has great beach/boardwalk, great houses, modern/victorian architecture, collections of inns and great hilton resort .

Long Branch was a resort town from the 1860's to World War I. Even though it has lost its elegance there are still attractions that draw visitors to this town.
