- I was totally Alone in Athens while attending a 3-day class for work. With only a few free hours after class, a presentation to prepare, and no husband to run around with, I only had time to eat, sleep, and study.

- People need a purpose to stop in Athens. No major highways or thoroughfares run across this Georgia region. Travelers stop for soccer tournaments, academic conferences or for the famous football games featuring the fifth ranked collegiate team. Athens also touts its famous musical history with groups as REM and B-52.

- Athens is a double barreled city. Like its famous Double-Barreled Cannon, Athens, Georgia is a city with two faces. Both of them lots of fun for visitors.

- Athens, Georgia, home of The University of Georgia, is a great day trip from Atlanta. It sits slightly northeast of Atlanta and is approximately a 1.5-hour drive. It's a great place for eclectic shopping, Southern cooking, college nostalgia, and unique dining.

- Athens is famous for its music and its university. Just a hour from Atlanta, it's a great place to spend a weekend night, either in the summer when no one else is there, or during football Saturdays when the whole city is red and black. It's a cheap and attractive place to spend a little time, eat good food, and have some fun.

- Athens Georgia means different things to different people.
For Georgia football fans it means a trip to Sanford Stadium in the fall to watch their Bulldogs play.
For others it means history as the University of Georgia is one of the oldest universities in the nation.
Athens is a beautiful city, especially in the downtown area around the campus.
