- Kustia is the cultural capital of Bangladesh because it is the birthplace of Lalon Fakir, a mystic poet; Kangal Harinath, pioneer of the rural newspaper in Bangladesh; and because of Shilaidah, where Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore, has lived several times for several weeks.
