Lombok is known as Bali's unspoilt little sister which is - unfortunately - only half the truth. In this journal I would like to tell you the good and bad faces of this paradise-like island.

From New Zealand to Jakarta for 2 nights, then headed to Lombok and the Gili Islands to the idyllic and undiscovered Heaven on the Planet in Ekas Bay. If you need to recharge your batteries for living in the Western world, this is the place to come.

Lombok is a beautiful island next to Bali, but not as crowded/touristy. Good local food, beautiful tranquil beaches, traditional houses, villages of potters and weavers, nearby isles, etc.

Mataram Exotic Island Capital OF Lombok

Created by Zanne on December 12, 2001

While many visiters pass through Mataram on their way to popular tourist destinations like Gili Islands or Senggigi, few of them stay. This city has delightful visual details and wonderfully kind people. Most travelers come halfway around the world to get here, it seems foolish to skip this charming capital.

Lombok's Unspoilt Gili Islands

Lombok is Bali's eastern neighbor and nestling off its northwest coast are Trawangan, Meno and Air, three laid-back islands, accessible by ferry from Lombok or, in our case, a fisherman's outrigger canoe chartered from Senggigi Beach. No cars or motorcycles disturb the tranquility, only small horse-drawn carts.
