- I have been through the Alsace region several times in my travels. Most of this journal is concerning a trip with some friends, but also contains some bits about other travels through the area.

- A long weekend in Alsace was too short to enjoy all the sights of this
beautiful part of France. We were surprised by the dramatic beauty of the
Vosges, the incredibly beautiful half-timbered houses in small towns, the good
food, and rapidly changing scenery.

- Alsace is the area of France where Germany, France and Switzerland meet. The Vosges Mountains, while not the Alps, offer some wonderful views and in our case some hair raising moments.src= http://www.igougo.com/photos/journal_photos/Im001444.jpg border=2 width =300 height=200 >

- We like to do short visits to new places when traveling between our summer home in Chicago and our winter home in Nice, France. This year we visited Alsace Lorraine, a beautiful area with great wines.

- With its mountians, great cities, and the fabulous half-timbered villages of the Route de Vin..

- This region is probably best known for its white wines, and while there is no shortage of winstubs (bistros) that serve good wine and beer in the cities, you'll only get half the picture that way. The wine route, running through the foothills of the Vosges mountains, delivers a feast for all the senses.

- Alsace is a region in which to experience the village traditions. In this journal, my purpose is only to cover the small towns, villages, and their traditions.

- We split a holiday between Alsace and the Jura. I must say we found the Jura better as the smaller towns in Alsace were a bit samish - but Alsace has its claims to fame.
