Mix seaside and mountains, and add a balmy coastal climate and warm south-facing beaches. Throw in gleaming, whitewashed buildings; terracotta tile; and wrought-iron ornamentation, around which subtropical plants grow as if possessed. Infuse with arts, culture, and outdoor dining. Spice it up with diverse ethnic mix = PARADISE!!!

On the way to LA we stopped for quick overnight in Santa Barbara. We had dinner and a night's stay. Nothing much, but Santa Barbara is always worth the stop.

Santa Barbara is a great small seaside town north of (but a world removed from) LA. Santa Barbara is between the Pacific Ocean and Santa Ynez Mountains, in a beautiful setting with fantastic climate. With a place so beautiful with such great weather, people are very active outdoors.

Santa Barbara is 90 miles north of Los Angeles, located on the Pacific coast where the mountains meet the sea. I've lived in this paradise that seems like a world away from the noise and pollution of Los Angeles.

Santa Barbara is relaxing walks on the beach, whale watching, wine tasting, Spanish Missions, architecture, gourmet food, olives and mountain hikes. We rented a car and toured several wineries – Fess Parker is our favorite. Shop for gifts at Trader Joe’s or in a shop on State Street.
