While the Cinque Terre (Five Lands) are incredibly picturesque and an amazing taste of "real" Italy, it seems like the tourist overload will take away some of the region's majesty before long.

Italy is fascinating but the region that consists of what is known as the Cinque Terre is everything you believed Italy to be and more. Fresh Italian pasta on a small sidewalk table overlooking the ocean at dusk. Captivating.

Cinque Terre is a canvas upon which the elements meet. The steep cliffs plunge into the Mediterranean. In the evening, as you look at the twinkling lights of the town below you and into the clear sky above, you might also sense the quintessence of Heaven on Earth.

Every time I go to Italy, I make a point to go to Cinque Terre. This is a place that I could go every year and never get bored. From the beautiful green hills to the deep blue ocean water, these five little towns are a spectacular place to vacation.
