- We wanted to take a train trip, so with relatives in the area and Hill Country Resort close by, it seemed we were bound for New Braunfels, Texas (actually the train went to San Antonio, about 20 minutes away). As I researched what activites were available, I was surprised at the variety. I'll try to discuss some of them in the following entries.

- My favorite restaurant in New Braunfels is Oma's Haus. My husband and I go frequently and always take family members when they come for a visit. We drive from San Antonio to eat there.

- I spent my July 4th weekend with a group of friends, floating the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels, TX! It was a great day of laziness, beer drinking, and mingling with strangers.

- I always had a vision of Texas. The big hat, the cowboy boots, the "yes Ma'am". I looked for it when I arrived in the state, and got a taste at Gruene Hall, Texas' oldest dance hall.

- We had a great time on our vacation. The Hill Country Resort was in an excellent location. It provided easy access to New Braunfels, San Antonio, Gruene, Boerne, San Marcos and Fredericksburg. While we did not visit Austin on this trip, it would have been just as convenient. All this wrapped up in beautiful scenery with lots of deer and fishing nearby. I am so glad we took the time to do this!

- The fog and solitude on the empty river made for a spooky time in early February. You can see the preperations being made at the resorts, and watch the anglers intent on the catch.
