- The welcome sign sums up the feel of this town:"uncrowded and unhurried". Everyone can find something here. This a perfect getaway for families, couples, and seniors.

- The mountains of western NC have great hiking (the glaciers didn't make it down here, so there are some sharp peaks), wonderful whitewater (Nantahala River, the Ocoee, the Chattooga in nearby GA), and some small Appalacian towns that have not been corrupted by commercialism.
