Virginia Beach, for me, has greater charm off season than it does during the summer. Leave the suntan lotion, bug repellant, and swimsuit at home and pack woolen socks, binoculars, and hiking boots. The shoals of tourists have departed, but the sun still rises each morning out over the ocean.

This trip presented a challenge from the beginning. My daughter (17) was inviting a girlfriend. Where could we go that two teenagers would have plenty to do? Virginia Beach filled the bill for all of us. Lots of touristy areas to visit, plenty of shopping, and when we have completely exhausted ourselves, we fall onto the beach, which is vacuumed every morning by the City of Virginia Beach. They do a wonderful job of keeping it as clean as they can. If only the visitors would help in that respect.
