Port Douglas, when I first knew it, was a sleepy fishing village. Now it is on the world scene as an up-market tourist hideaway, visited by celebrities, presidents and others. Fortunately, with a bit of planning, it can still be enjoyed by ‘ordinary’ folk, as I recently discovered.

Port Douglas is a small, resort town north of Cairns. I went there intending to get a job with my visa, but upon experiencing the bliss of holidaying here, my friend Sierra and I decided on a month-long, carefree stretch of days at the beach and nights out on the town.
