Funchal is the capital of the Madeira Islands. It is also the largest city. The city is named for fennel which grows in abundance there.

Our cruise ship stopped here for the day....a beautiful island! I took the bus tour, and my daughter chose the 4x4 off-road tour.

A visit to the magical island of Madeira is a definite must to add to the "Places to Visit". An island which offers so much relaxation or so much activity. You choose! Walking, wildlife, flora, and fauna. Madeira offers something for everyone.

The Madeira Regency Palace is a beautiful hotel, and it's well worth the Crown Resort status.
The only downfall is that the amenities are quite expensive, and there are no discounts for owners.

We visited Madeira for the second time, on this occasion, with my parents to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. Our timeshare apartment was at what was then called Carlton Village (now Pestana Village). Having a hired car meant we could make the most of seeing this beautiful island.

Island with loads to see and do! Majestic scenery, and lovely and peaceful too! Fill a non-stop week very easily, and not too costly either.
