- Doha is a multicultural place with many things to see. Don't believe all the stories that there's nothing to do. Unless you're a alcoholic, there's PLENTY to do and see. It's beautiful here.

- Doha is not Dubai... not yet, anyway. But I am sure the successful masterminds of Dubai’s meteoric rise are already feeling Doha’s competitive breath on their neck as both cities race towards the future. The rulers of Qatar are copying studiously the lessons coming from the UAE.

- Qatar? What good can anyone say about this barren, dusty peninsula exiting out of the Arabian peninsula? It's got money! They're spending like crazy on sports facilities, a new airport, and roads, but the sudden boom to the country's fortunes has made Qatar a congested, sun-baked trap.

- There is more going on here than drilling for gas. Doha is a growing city with a large ex-patriot population. It is safe and there is plenty to occupy tourists for a trip of five days or so.
