Bamako - Never Judge a Book by the Cover

Created by HELEN001 on March 2, 2006

  • Well, the guide books don't exactly promote Bamako as a 'must see' place, and after arriving in Mali and spending 2 days there I also found it hot and oppressively crowded. Three weeks later I was forced to spend 10 days in Bamako, and consequently had time to modify my opinion. Just takes a bit of time to get the feel of the place.

Bamako - Mali's colourful and chaotic capital

Created by Invicta73 on August 19, 2003

  • Even though the main reasons for visiting Mali are located elsewhere, I decided to spend some time in Bamako after initially landing there and before heading on to the more renowned locales. I feel that doing so was definitely a good idea, primarily because of the capital's wonderfully vivacious character.

Bamako, the friendly city

Created by sociolingo on September 2, 2004

  • Bamako, an African capital city that is small enough to be friendly to the stranger and yet big enough to supply most of the things you need. I first came to Mali in 1999 when I spent seven weeks, setting up research into mother tongue education in schools. I went back in October 2000 and stayed until March 2001. We lived in Bamako the capital and worked in a school on the outskirts of town. We loved the country and arrived back here to live and work recently. In these pages I will try and give you a little taste of life here. I'm still finding out more about the country I live in and as I do, I'll post more pictures and information.
