Energized and laid-back both describe San Luis Obispo, 8 fast miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, and home to Cal Poly. Though minutes away from coastal hot spots like Morro Bay and Pismo Beach, there’s plenty to see and do right in SLO from dawn to the wee hours.

San Luis Obisbo is a nice historic small town on California's central coast, about 70 miles north of Santa Barbara. We had a short but great visit.

As a native Californian, I think of the Central Coast as being one of the only places left in California that hasn't already changed into a sea of freeways and shopping malls.
