Located North of Lafayette. While going North on Louisiana Avenue, turn left on Carmel Drive. Go approximately three miles and turn left on Lake Martin Road. Travel about five miles and turn left at Lake Martin sign.
This is the place to view wildlife of the area. You can either walk or ride in your vehicle. Either way is fine and you are sure to see wildlife.
The are is a lake/swamp with lots of cypress trees and other vegitation. Lots of birds, including herons, egrets, galinules, etc. Also, you are sure to see alligators, nurtia and possibly racoons, muskrats, mink and even bears.
Guided tours of the interior of the lake are available but must be scheduled in advance. This may be done through the tourist bureau in Lafayette.
An interesting place on the road past the lake boat landing is a five story structure. This is the home of an eccentric antique dealer. Unfortunately, gaining admission is next to impossible, but it is still a sight to see this structure in a swamp. The interior is furnished in 16th- and 17th-century French furnishings.
This area is a lovely place and no charge for admission.
